.: Paradoxical paralysis :.

Lesson 3.

We were going to have dinner when I saw some beggars begging for alms at the roadside. They wore tattered clothing, held a chipped rice bowl and there was so much sorrow in their eyes.

No one stopped to offer any alms. No one stopped to offer a kind word. No one stopped at all.

Everyone was too concerned in their affairs that they didn’t take the slightest notice of these beggars.

It was a painful and pitiful sight.

----------------------------

A few years ago, I was at an eatery with a friend. He tried to stop me from looking at the cleaners but I was too stubborn to listen. That was when I saw the cleaner eating food left by the patrons. At that time all I thought of doing was to buy her food or offer her some money. However, my friend stopped me saying it will only bring more shame to the lady. I felt disgusted at myself for comfortably having good food while another person had to eat leftover scraps. I was terribly disturbed by this.

----------------------------

For ever so long have I been blinded and shielded from acknowledging the sufferings of others. Seeing these people and the situation they are in, reopened my eyes, my heart and mind to the cold realities of life. This time around, I chose not to push it all aside.

Alhamdulillah, God must have wanted to give me a chance to redeem myself.

Starting right here in China.

Very thought-provoking. We are so used to seeing people suffer around us that we get numb to it. It is so sad when someone's hunger is barely noticed by the rest of us while we enjoy our lattes and go on with our day ....

Assalamu'Alaikum..

Aw I guess people in general that don't stop to speak to or offer help to others in a worse condition isn't because we are bad people. I think it's just the way society is these days.. I'm not making an excuse lol. Allhamu'lillah, that's fab if you are trying to reach out :) I guess every little things help! You don't value what Allah subhana'thalah has given you until you realise how much more you have than other people!

Lovely post x

I believe that one person can make a difference. You are obviously a very caring person with a conscience. Being kind to someone should not bring them shame. I really enjoyed this post - thank you.

What Masood and I usually do when we eat out (specially at food courts) is that we keep aside a decent portion of our meal before we eat and offer that to whoever comes to clear our table after wards. It always brings a smile to their faces.

Great post, Sis. Allah knows your kind intentions; may He bless and reward you for that. Ameen.

But what can we do? We don't know!

Hijabee :: It saddens me really. Sometimes I wonder, what has become of our society ...

Neelam :: Wa'alaikum'as'salam dearest Neelam.

Precisely. I don't think they're bad people too, however showing a little bit of compassion even if it's in the form of a smile goes a very long way. :)

So true. We tend to take for granted the things that we have, to the extent that we forget that we wouldn't have it if Allah S.W.T didn't choose to give it to us.

Thanks for visiting the blog & I appreciate your kind feedback. :)

Jeanne-ming :: Thank you. ^^

Susie of Arabia :: I believe in that too. It may take a while, but changes can & will be made. :)

You're too kind Susie. The conscience is being tested time and time again, and I'm still striving hard to find my true calling. Insha'Allah, God shall guide me to His path. Glad you enjoyed it.

Nadia :: You astound me yet again! That's a great idea & I should consider putting that into practice. ^^ Ameen sis and I pray that Allah S.W.T shall bestow his bountiful blessings on you and Masood. Thank you so much!

Amir :: Welcome to the blog brother. The feeling is unspeakable of, nevertheless I'm sure there is a way for us to offer our aid.
