.: Buah berangan :.

Water chestnuts.

Me:: Uncle! I wanna take your photo! || Uncle:: Eh?
Me:: Uncle! Smile!
|| Uncle:: *smile*

Direct translations of buah berangan from Malay to English is, daydreaming fruit. Mum used to buy loads of it from her workplace, thus explains why I was *still am* a daydreamer. Photos were taken at Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur. Twas my first time here. Used to be a taboo area for me, imposed by my brother and friends. Apparently, they said one can find Chinese gangsters there.

Can't say I was prowling around to find one ...

Assalamualaikum.

I found out that chestnuts and 'buah berangan' are the same thing when I was in standard 5. Before that, I kept pondering what is a chestnut.

He has the smile of a day dreamer. :) Has he been eating a lot of them himself?

Miss Ash:: Wa'alaikumussalam. And I'm still wondering why it's called buah berangan ...

Hajar:: By the looks of it, I'm guessing he has. :)

I really enjoy seeing your pictures of the market scenes. Thanks for sharing :)

Van Qif:: Wa'alaikumussalam. That's a clear fact.

Buah berangan as depicted in the images, are tossed around in coffee beans. IMHO, it's not sweet at all. More of a cross between a distinct nutty taste with traces of coffee bits. Some may be bitter.

Then you should try chilling the peeled rambutan and have it on a hot day. Easily beats any thirst quencher. :)

Prowling with my sister. It is still taboo for me to go there on my own. :(

Lisa B:: Gladly. Will be posting more soon. ^^
