Chinese Muslim calligraphy in the Sinic (Chinese) Arabic script by Haji Yousaf Chen Jinhui

Chinese Muslim calligraphy in the Sinic (Chinese) Arabic script by Imam Haji Abdul Hakim @ Liu Jing Yi

Chinese Muslim calligraphy in the Sinic (Chinese) Arabic script by Haji Noor Deen Mi

With the coming of Ramadhan, a few friends have come together to create a simple guide to Ramadhan in Mandarin Chinese with some basic information about the blessed month because sometimes, people want to understand why Muslims can get so hyped about the month of Ramadhan. Logically speaking, why would masses of people develop the adrenaline rush for a whole month of fasting? Hopefully, the guide would be able to shed some light.

The main purpose of doing it in Mandarin Chinese is purely to reach out to this particular segment as I often get queried by my Chinese friends, who at times despite some being English literate, still prefer to digest certain information in their own native language. I suppose that speaks for most of us.

In the next few days, insha'Allah I will share extracts of the guide on this blog. The actual leaflet will be shared as a concluding post and can be downloaded under "The Extras" section. Do feel free to download or share the khayr with others. Also, kindly inform me if there are discrepancies in the information shared in the leaflet.

First post coming up soon, insha'Allah.

Jazakumu'Allahu khairan.

.: Ahoy Hanoi :.

The veil.

We were in the vegetarian restaurant. The waiter, a strapping young lad who could possibly pass as a college student handed us our menus. Famished, we started discussing on what we should have for dinner on our first night in Hanoi, somewhat a little oblivious to the lad who was still standing there waiting for our order.

After a while, the lad said:

"I like that. That thing that you wear on your head. It looks very nice. Are you Muslim?"

"Yes, yes we are Muslims. Thank you."

We managed to talk a little more with him. As we had thought, he is currently a student at one of the local universities. The waiter job is his part-time work. Not only does the job enable him to gain extra pocket money and working experience, the job also enables him to improve on his English and communication skills.

Sometimes I wonder, if I could turn back time and go through it allover again, would I have been as resourceful as him when I was at his age?

Hope he is doing well there.

Forest City.

Staying in the southern state, one cannot stay completely oblivious to the rapid development that is currently taking place. One of the developments that has been buzzing in the property scene is Forest City by Country Garden

As someone who is nearly clueless about property markets, I have zilch idea about the developer. Thankfully, my significant other managed to shed some light. The said developer is renowned in China and this particular project is slated to be 'the' project. How huge is this project? Developed on man-made islands, it was recently declared as a free-trade area.

What will this entail? Will there be an influx of foreigners, foreign investors and foreign companies? Abundance in new jobs and opportunities for locals? Better and more systematic transportation systems and infrastructures? Only time, only time will tell.

On my part, I have been to Forest City twice and indeed, it is impressive. Would I like to stay there? This depends on my significant other. For now, I am thankful with wherever I am, Alhamdulillah.

Massive development.
